The St. Clair Bayfield Award
Stark Sands receives Equity 's Prestigious Bayfield Award
Stark Sands has received the annual St. Clair Bayfield Award presented by the Actors’ Equity Foundation for his performance in the Classic Stage Company’s production of Shakespeare’s THE TEMPEST. The announcement was made today by Arne Gundersen, President of the Foundation.
The award, which was established in 1973 in memory of Equity member St. Clair Bayfield, honors the best performance by an Actor in a Shakespearean play in the New York metropolitan area. The recipient receives a $1,000 check and a crystal plaque, which will be presented at Equity’s Eastern Regional Membership Meeting at 2 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2009 at the Equity office, 165 West 46th Street in New York City.
Mr. Sands earlier appeared on Broadway in JOURNEY’S END, for which he received a 2007 Tony nomination for best performance by a featured actor. He has also appeared in regional theatres; in films, including Flags of our Fathers, Die, Mommie, Die and Shall We Dance and on TV in HBO’s Six Feet Under, among other shows.
The Judges Panel for the Bayfield Award includes: Joe Dziemianowicz, Daily News; Adam Feldman, Time Out NY; Harry Haun; Playbill; Michael Kuchwara, Associated Press, and David Rosenberg, Back Stage.
Previous recipients of Equity’s St. Clair Bayfield Award include: Carmen DeLavalade, Bradley Whitford, Nathan Lane, Dana Ivey, Brian Murray and, in 2007, Jay O. Sanders.
